Picture
The earth takes care of us, and we have to do our job in taking care of it and Earth Day is one day a year where we can really focus on what we can do year-round. Email pictures of your completed projects so others can see how creative you were! (We'll only post the picture, a first name and age.)
Recycled Self-Watering Planter
What You Need:

  • Spring or floral wrapping paper
  • Decoupage glue
  • Newspaper
  • Sealer
  • Maxwell House plastic coffee container
  • Indoor plant soil
  • Seeds or plant
What to Do:
  1. Rinse out and allow the plastic coffee container to dry completely.
  2. Cut the wrapping paper into any shape of your choosing, making sure to cut enough to cover the container.
  3. Cover the work surface with newspaper. Apply the wrapping paper onto the container following the decoupage glue directions. Allow to dry completely.
  4. Cover with a sealer to protect the wrapping paper. Allow to dry completely.
  5. Fill the container with dirt, leaving the handle area empty.
  6. Plant the seeds or plant. Moisten the soil as directed.
  7. Fill the handle with water, then keep full as needed. This allows the soil to soak up the water as needed.

Recycled Magazine Holder
What You Need:
  • Shelf liner
  • Cereal box
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
What to Do:
  1. Take the plastic bag out of the cereal box.
  2. Cut off the upper flaps off the cereal box.
  3. Two-inches across top of box, cut at a 45 degree angle down to front of your magazine holder (leaving two-inches), cut straight across then back up other side at the same angle.
  4. Spread the shelf liner out on the table, the decorative side facing the table.
  5. Starting on one side, trace the box onto the shelf paper. Add a one-inch border along the top and bottom then cut out.
  6. Peel the backing off slowly as you apply the shelf lining to the box. Fold the border over the edges along the top and bottom.
